Factor analysis is a multivariate methods were used to analyze the variables suspected of having links with one another so that the association can be explained and mapped or grouped on an appropriate factor. In this study used factor analysis to find out what the dominant factors that influence the rate of traffic accidents in the city of Medan based on data obtained at the office of the Indonesian National Police Resort Medan. The research showed four dominant factors affecting the level of traffic accidents are the factors causing the driver (24.505%), the factors causing the vehicle (18.872%), environmental causal factors (14.900%), the causative factor (11.640%). These four factors provide diversity cumulative proportion of 69.917% means that all four factors can affect the level of traffic accidents in the city field amounted to 69.917% and the rest can be influenced by other factors not identified by other models.en_US
