Abstract

As an archipelago state, Indonesia has a very large coastal arcalt is estimated that 6tr/a of the population of Indonesia live and domicile in the coastal area- Of 64.439 villages in IndonesiU 4.735 villages can be categorized as coastal villages. The people of Indonesia living in the coastal towns has reached about 100 millions people. The coastal aud marine economic activities has conhibuted for 2#/o af the GDP. Various kinds of activities such as industry, residential settlements, fislrponds, fishermen, trade, transportatiorU harbors, and recreation are found in coastal areas. Blang Geulumpang Village, a fisherman settlement located in the eshrary of Krueng Idi, has been established since old times beginning with the arrival of Chinese descents, followed by the Dutch occupation and imunigralrt fisherrren who becrne the indigenous people of this Blang Geultmrpang Village. The grourth pattem was formed because it is close to the waters, ship/boat mooring place, pier, and fish auction market. The ptrpose of this causal comparative study was to identifr the pattern of fisherman setlement and the factors influencing the growth of the fisherman settlement. The result of this study showed that the growfr of physieal and non physical analysis of the fishe,lrran settlement. The conclusion drawn is that the pattern of fishennan settlement in the coastal village of Blang Geulumpang is extending following the village road and the factors influencing it are the ease in occupaying and owning the lan4 the availability of clean water and electicity, close kindship due to wedlock and belonging to the same job (fistrermen), betto education level, increasing income, and the increasing fimction of harbor not only as fish trading place but also as tourist object and tesearch site
