    Abstract

Tannin compound that contain inside awak banana peel can be use as inhibitors to protect metals from corrosion. This study is aimed to determine the effect of awak banana peel inhibitor addition to corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency of zinc specimen in hydrochloric acid (HCl) medium. The variables observed are the form of inhibitor, include powder, crude extract, and tannin from awak banana peel, inhibitor concentration and immersion time. The parameters studied were corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency of zinc specimen. The results show the lowest corrosion rate and the highest inhibition efficiency was obtained by soaking the specimen for 12 days in HCl and adding 2.06 g/cm2 tannin inhibitor. In this condition, the corrosion rate reached 10.23 mpy while the inhibition efficiency is 95.98 %. Corrosion rate and efficiency inhibition which give the best result with the addition of powder and crude extract inhibitors obtained by soaking the specimen for 12 days with the addition of 2.06 g/cm2 inhibitor resulting the corrosion rate of 23.95 mpy and inhibition efficiency of 90.93 % while 16.39 mpy and 93.51 % for crude extract. The results show powder, crude extract, and tannin inhibitors from awak banana peel has good corrosion inhibition performance.
