Analisis Faktor Penentu Daya Saing Kopi Indonesia terhadap Trend Pasar Dunia
Abstract
The increase in coffee export of Indonesia has been sufficigntly proqpect,
almost 6o,8lyo of national production was exported due to the capa-uitity or
domestic processing industry and consumption of coffee are still relatively lower.
The coffee of Indonesia has been well-known abroad since a longer limc and even
with the progressive promotion, Indonesia has successfully increased in the coffee
export to many coqntries. However, in order side, the capability of the nationa!
c,offtes in intemational markets is still lower. The lower capability is closely relalad
to several factors affecting the competitive power of cofftee. For that reason, an
effort is required to find know the determining factors of such a competitive power
of the coffep. It makes provision of inputs important espocially with the parties t-ra(
are interest especially with the government and business worldwide to evaluate and
analysis to which the extent of the identification has been made for the strategically
factors of competitive power of the coffee either externally or intcrnally.
Furthermore it is expected from the identification to find the strategically
dercrmining factors of the competitive power of the national coffee to be a basic
consideration for determination of the strategically alternatives of improving &c
competitive power.
The analysis of date in the present study was canied out by using an
external and internal setting approach viewed fr,om the competitive advantage of
nalion theory, industrial structural analysis and value cbain of Porter.
Jhe 5esult of study of strarcgi,cally determining fpctors of the competitive
power of the national coffee producd 20 (twenty) factorq consising of stneng@
Weakness' Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) each of which consisted of 5 (frve)
factors that was then tested using EFE an IFE matrixes to find a strategic
formulation in improving tlre competitive power.
Based on the result of study, the competitive power of the national coffee
was influenced by the extemal factors such as fluctuation in price due to thee
international demand to coffee and the existence oftelecommunication facility and
ottrer opportunities. It is due to that coffee has main marketplaces in London and
New York so that any movement of price may change almost any time, depending
on the demand and supply occurred in the markets- Similarly, with the oppornrnity
factor and several threats to the competitive power of the national coffee more tend
to the working capitalfinterest ratq promotion of the proponent farmerVcollector of
cof[ee and the challenge of the world trade and other threats.
Whereas with internal factors especially the sterrgth factor influencing tlre
competitive power of the national coffee is that should be further taken into
a@ount if we wish to compete in international markcts such as better quality
supportd by technical skill and managernent with a special experience in spite of
the favorable relationship with the zuppliers and other strength factors. The
weakness of the competitive power of the national coffe included the lower
relatively bargaining power or exporter, the lack of dishibution channelq
competition in price among the exporters and other weakness factors.
