dc.description.abstractHas been done the research about synthesis and characterization of composite saray palm fiber with epoxy matrix with Chopped Strand Mat method. Composition saray palm fiber has made with variation 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% to total mass of matrix and which epoxy was used as matrix. Manufacture of composite SPS-E was, fibers soaked with NaOH for 1 hour, rinsed with clean water and dried, and then weighed. Epoxy mixed with its hardener by the motor stirrer then poured into molds and pressed 60 minutes at a temperature 70o C. The aim of this research is to obtain physical and mechanical properties. Value of density is 0,858 g/cm3 to 1,173 g/cm3 , value of water absorption is 0,75 % to 4,89 %, value of water content is 0,89% to 8,94 %, value of tensile strength is 9,61 MPa to13,14 MPa, value of flexural strength is 23,52 MPa to 104,85MPa and value of impact is 24,3 kJ/m2 to 38,5kJ/m2 . Composites are qualified Japanese Industrial Standard JIS A 5905: 2003. Composite of saray palm fiber with epoxy matrix can be used as material for car bumper.en_US
