Nias Island is the region of confluence of Indo – Australia plate with Eurasia
plate. Because Nias island is situated on the west coast of Sumatra and the
adjacent Indonesia ocean, so the earthquake has the potensial to generated
tsunami. Tsunami disaster that has ever happened on the west coast of Sumatra
has triggered various parties in Indonesia as well as from the international
community as well as to predict the occurrence of tsunami disaster mitigation to
reduce impacts and losses caused by the disaster.
The research was conducted in BMKG Regional I Medan. This study uses a
model of tsunami WinITDB (Windows Integrated Tsunami Data Base). Tsunami
model is one model that can predict tsunami wave arrival time of tsunami
(Tsunami Travel Time) of tsunami wave generation sources to the coastal areas
affected by tsunami. Data of earthquake and tsunami included length rupture,
width rupture and epicentrum required as input model. Data obtained from the
USGS (United States Geoloical Survey) and data are processed and the results of
the distribution of tsunami waves from the source to all the coastal areas affected
by the tsunami.
