dc.description.abstractBackground: Skin in patients with acne vulgaris has lower facial skin hydration than facial skin that does not experience acne vulgaris. Skin hydration has various functions, such as regulating skin permeability, influencing inflammatory cytokines, and causing skin barrier disorders. Facial skin hydration in patients with acne vulgaris decreases due to skin barrier damage. Extracellular lipids are the content of the stratum corneum, which functions as a structure in the skin barrier components. The content of cucumber (Cucumis sativus Linn) has ingredients such as linoleic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, flavonoids, tannins, and terpenes which can play a role in increasing barrier repair, antioxidants, and anti-inflammation resulting in increased hydration of the skin. Objective: To determine the effect of a 3% cucumber (Cucumis sativus Linn) seed extract gel cleanser on facial skin hydration in acne vulgaris patients. Methods: This pre-experimental clinical trial study was conducted with a pretest-posttest design on 30 subjects with acne vulgaris. Diagnosis is made through history and clinical evaluation using the CM 825 corneometer before and after administration of 3% cucumber seed extract cleansing gel, carried out at weeks 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8. Side effects were recorded during the study, and the level of satisfaction was assessed at the end of the research period. In addition, a repeated ANOVA test was carried out to see the difference before and after treatment with a p-value <0.05, which is considered significant. Results: There was a statistically significant increase in skin hydration in subjects with acne vulgaris (p=0.000) after eight weeks of administration of 3% cucumber (Cucumis sativus Linn) seed extract gel cleanser. None of the study subjects experienced any side effects. The majority of subjects (96.7%) were satisfied with the administration of 3% cucumber (Cucumis sativus Linn) seed extract gel cleanser. Conclusion: Using a 3% cucumber (Cucumis sativus Linn) seed extract gel cleanser can improve facial skin hydration in acne vulgaris patients with mild side effects and a good satisfaction level.en_US
