ABSTRACT
One of the government's efforts to overcome unemployment problem is by giving
support for the establishment of independent business for society. One of them is
by gaining students’ entrepreneurship motivation through entrepreneurial activity.
There are many variables that may influence students’ motivation in
entrepreneurship. The aim of this study is to describe the diversity of these
variables then summarize them in order to obtain a dominant factor by using
factor analysis techniques. The process of analysis factor is to find the relationship
between each independent variable, so that one or a set of variables that less in
number than the initial variables can be derived. Based on the overall results, the
overall variable was valid with rhitung ≥ 0,202 and overall variable with higher
reliability with Cronbach Alpha was > 0,6. The reduction process by
implementing component analysis towards the variables that underlying students’
motivation in entrepreneurship of Science Faculty of USU, there were five factors
that influence their major motivation: personality (26,102%), motivation
(11,174%), family (9,028%), environment (8,316%), and motive (7,635%). These
five factors provide diversity in cumulative proportion about 62,255% which
mean 62,255% these five factors influence students’ motivation in
entrepreneurship and the rest were influenced by other factors that were not
identified by the research.
