The characterization of Hemigraphis colorata leaf extract has been performed as
dyes in Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC). DSSC is a prototype that can convert
solar energy become electrical energy which is composed of the work electrode
(dyes- semiconductor TiO2- electrolyte) and the counter electrode. The two
electrodes were superimposed on a pair of conductive glass substrate. The dye
have been characterized optically using UV-Vis Spechtrophotometer and FT-IR.
The results showed that the leaves contain flavonoid functional groups that could
absorb visible light at wavelength spectrum of 564,5 nm and 403,0 nm. In this
case, conductive glass substrate used a homemade TCO substrate. Homemade
TCO substrate was made of ordinary glass substrate coated with a conductive
solution of SnCl4.5H2O using spray coating method. And TiO2 paste was coated
on a homemade TCO substrate by doctor-blade technique and then soaked in the
dye with variation of time. The solar cells were irradiated with sunlight capable of
converting solar energy into electrical energy with efficiency of 0,4943%. The
light intensity of 0,18655 W/m2 falled on the active area of 3.5 cm2
. Therefore,
Hemigrpahis colorata leaf extract had good potential as dye in DSSC.
