    Pembuatan dan Karakterisasi Kanvas Rem Berbasis Komposit Serat Rami dan Serat Buah Pinang dengan Resin Epoxy sebagai Perekat

    Abstract
    The brake pads have been done by using mixture of material : ramie fibers, areca fiber, activated carbon as filler and epoxy resin as matrix through a dry compression moulding technique with variation of composition ramie fibers : areca fibers : activated carbon : epoxy resin 50% : 10% : 10% : 30%, 55% : 10% : 10% : 25%, 60% : 10% : 10% : 20%, 65% : 10% : 10% : 15% and 70% : 10% : 10% : 10%. The sample fabrication was done in two step. The first step, fibers cutted by random of size ±0,5 cm. Then, fibers is mixed with epoxy resin until homogenous about 5 minutes with dry mixing method. Second step, the fibers was homogenized then it moulded with pressure 7 ton with holding time about 10 minutes. The moulded sampel were characterized such as : physical properties (density, porosity and water absorption), mechanical properties (hardness strength and wear rate) and thermal properties melting point by DTA (Differential Thermal Analysis). The characterization result show that the optimum composition of ramie fibers : areca fibers : activated carbon : epoxy resin was 50% : 10% : 10% : 30%, had the highest density 2,348 x 103 kg/m3, porosity 0,75%, water absorption 0,26%, hardness strength 100,252 x 103N/m, wear rate 9,259 x 10-3 kg/m2. sec and melting point 410oC. The result of ramie fibers and areca fibers composite can applied as replacement brake pads in market.
