The synthesis of Magnesium deboride (MgB2) superconductor with the addition of
Carbon Nano Tube (CNT) using Powder in Tube (PIT) method has been done.
MgB2 superconductors has critical temperature ~ 39K. The addition of CNT 5, 10
and 20 wt.% conducted to study its effect on characteristic against
superconductivity in MgB2material.This material is synthesized by the method
Powder In Tube (PIT). Raw materials floured Magnesium (Mg), boron (B) and
Carbon Nanotubes (CNT) were weighted based on the calculation stoiciometry.
The materials is milled for 1 hour using mortar and then inserted into the type of
SS304 stainless steel pipe and do a pressing process with a pressure of 165 MPa,
furthermore do heating process (sintering) using a muffle furnace at a
temperature of 850˚C for 10 hours. Then the samples were characterized by
means of XRD, SEM, and Cryogenic Magnet . Phases identification seen by XRD,
there are several phases that form such as, MgB2, MgO, Mg and B. The structure
of homogeneous morphology seen through SEM. Based on testing of Cryogenic
Magnet can be seen that the addition of CNT as 5wt.% Can lower critical
temperature (Tc), where as for the addition of CNTs as much as 10wt.% And
20wt.% Showed a decrease in the material properties of superconductivity in
MgB2.
