Research about manufacture and characterization of polymer composite board
utilized a mixture of polypropylene, coconut fibers, and parchment of coffee bean
had been done. This study aimed to determine the effect of variations coconut
fibers and polypropylene to polymer composite board characteristics. Comparison
of polypropylene, coconut fibers, parchment of coffee bean, and maleic anhydride
with each composition are (100 : 0 : 0 : 0) gr, (90,5 : 0 : 5 : 4,5) gr, (89,5 : 1 : 5 :
4,5) gr, (88,5 : 2 : 5 : 4,5) gr, (87,5 : 3 : 5 : 4,5) gr, which the function of maleic
anhydride as a catalyst. The manufacture of polymer composite board used
refluxtion method which adding of xylene 300 ml as a solvent. Characterization
testing performed included physical test (density and water absorption) and
mechanical test (impact, tensile, and flexural). The results showed that the
characteristics of polymer composite board were influenced by coconut fibers and
parchment of coffee bean composition.
