dc.description.abstractNylon thermoplastic is very good to be used for patients who cannot be treated with acrylic denture, whom experienced repeated denture fracture and allergic reaction. Nylon thermoplastic has some disadvantages, which are high water sorption, low color stability, and difficulty in polishing that cause rougher surface than acrylic resin. Glass fiber addition in polymer denture base material have effect on decreasing water sorption, but higher concentration of glass fiber addition will increase surface roughness of denture base. Denture base exposure to various colored food and drink can cause color change on denture base, thus denture cleaning is needed to prevent it, but denture cleaning solution can cause increase of surface roughness and color change. Aim of this research is to find out the effect of immersion in denture cleaning solution on surface roughness and color stability of nylon thermoplastic denture base material added with 1% and 1,5% glass fiber. Type of this research is laboratoric experimental research. A number of 30 samples of nylon thermoplastic denture base material was fabricated in Unit UJI Laboratorium Dental FKG USU. The samples were divided into 6 groups, consist of group without glass fiber, with 1% and 1,5% glass fiber without and with immersion in denture cleaning solution. Measurement of surface roughness was done using profile meter and measurement of color stability was done using colorimeter. The effect of 1% and 1,5% glass fiber addition on surface roughness and color stability was analyzed with one-way ANOVA and effect of immersion in denture cleaning solution on surface roughness and color stability was analyzed with t-test. The difference of effect among groups without glass fiber, with 1% and 1,5% glass fiber without and with immersion in denture cleaning solution was analyzed with LSD test. Result showed that there was no effect of immersion in denture cleaning solution on surface roughness and color stability of nylon thermoplastic denture base material added with 1% and 1,5% glass fiber. Nylon thermoplastic denture base materials with and without glass fiber which were immersed in commercial denture cleaning solution for 30 hours (simulation of 1 year usage) did not have effect on surface roughness and color stability.en_US
