Intraperitoneal adhesions post laparotomy may increase morbidity and mortality. In order to prevent the formation of intraperitoneal adhesion one of them is by administering anti-inflamatory drug. To determine the effect COX-2 specific inhibitor celecoxib given in difference doses the incidence of post laparotomy intraperitoneal adhesion. ‘Twenty Sprague Dawley rats (weighing: 150-200 gram) were divided into 4 group (n=5). They were treated with aquadest (1 ml, group I, placebo), diclofenac (1 mg/kgbw; group II), celecoxib low doses (1.4 mg/kgbw; group III), and celecoxib high doses (7 mg/kgbw). Each drug was orally administered once daily for consecutive 3 days. On day 10, each rat was executed to re-laparotomy to determine the incidence the number and the volume of adhesions, and the present of angiogenesis. The data observed were analyzed by one way ANOVA with the level of P<0.05. The result of study showed intraperitoneal adhesions were observed in all animals of group | and IV (5/5), but the incidence of adhesions were much less in group II (2/5) and group III (1/5). The average of the number intraperitoneal adhesions formed in group I (1.20±0.45) and group IV (1.40±0.55), were not statistically significant. The similar evidence was also occurred between group II (0.40±0.45) and group III (0.20±0.55). The average of the volume intraperitoneal adhesions formed in group IV (0.53±0.22 ml) and group I (0.80±0.31 ml), were not statistically significant. The similar evidence was also occurred between group III (0.06±0.13 ml) and group Il (0.17±0.27 ml). The average of present angiogene: group IV (15.60±7.57) with group I (8.20±7.16), were not statistically significant, The similar evidence was also occurred between on group III (0.60±1.34) and group II (2.60±3,97). The present demonstrated that the low dose celecoxib (1.4 mg/kgbw) and diclofenac (1 mg/kgbw) could prevent the present of intraperitoneal adhesion and angiogenesis post laparotomy. But, if the dose of celecoxib (7 mg/kgbw) increased of the incidence of the number and the volume of adhesion and the present of angiogenesis was also increased.en_US
