Had been done research of characterization wear protection of lubricating oil
SAE 10W-30 with nanoparticle additive Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) as friction
modifier. The research used surfactant sodium dodesil sulfate (SDS) to prevent
sedimentation or agglomeration nanoparticle MoS2 when the engine is cold. The
most optimal composition of nano additive MoS2 0.1%weight andSDS 0.2
%weight (wt%), obtained with varying the samples with 12 diffrent samples
composition. The test used with 2 instruments test, fourball scar diameter and
HFRR(High-Frequency Reciprocating Rig). The results of Fourball scar diameter
test: without nano additive 0.31 mm and with nano additives 0.26 mm, or 16%
increase protection scar diameter. The results of HFRR(High-Frequency
Reciprocating Rig) wear scar test: without nano additive 167.5 μm and with nano
additives 96 μm, or 42.7% reduce the value of wear scar. The results of HFRR
friction test: without nano additive 0.124 andwith nano additives MoS20.122, or
1.61% reduce the value of friction.
