PLTU is a generator that relies on the kinetic energy of steam to produce electrical energy. One component of PLTU is a boiler, in the boiler there are hundreds of wall tubes. The wall tube inside the boiler is usually damaged in the form of thinning of the pipe wall caused by erosion caused by fly ash, and bed particles that are blown due to the fluidized bed combustion method. There are very few studies that discuss the erosion phenomenon, so the right way to deal with this phenomenon has not been found. For this reason, a test was carried out to study the erosion characteristics of the surface of the oxide that occurred through the rate of formation of the oxide. This study uses a steel plate with ASTM516 grade 70 standard because this plate is usually used as a material in the manufacture of boilers. Tests carried out in this study include testing the rate of oxide formation, surface erosion rate, surface tensile strength test, Vickers test, and surface microstructure using SEM-EDS. From this study, it can be concluded that the part that is eroded in the erosion phenomenon on the wall tube is the oxide, this can be proven by the graph of the comparison of the rate of erosion of the surface of the ASTM516 steel plate before oxidation and after oxidation where the erosion rate on the ASTM516 steel plate after oxidation is greater than before oxidation, Then this is supported by the maximum tensile strength value of ASTM516 steel plate after oxidation of 4.3280 MPa which is much lower than the value of tensile strength before oxidation which is 20.1559MPa, and the average hardness of ASTM516 steel plate after oxidation is 148.34 HV which is higher. lower than before oxidation which was 178.67 HV.
