dc.description.abstractBreast cancer is a disease of malignant neoplasm derived from cells parenchym. Breast cancer and treatment of physical and psychological impact on sufjerers of pain and anxiety. This study aimed to analyze the relationship of pain characteristics (pain intensity, pain interference, quality of pain, duration of pain, and pain location) with anxiety in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in Dr. Pirngadi Medan hospital in 2015. This study design was cross-sectional. Samples numbered 52 breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, which is taken by consecutive sampling technique. Results of the study there is a significant relationship between the stage of the cancer with anxiety (r = 0.69; p.value = 0,000), there is a significant relationship between cycles of chemotherapy with anxiety (r= -0.71; p.value = 0,000), there is a significant relationship between the intensity of pain with anxiety (r = 0.95; p.value = 0,000), there is a significant relationship between pain interference with anxiety (r = 0,92; p.value = 0,000), there is a significant relationship between quality of pain with anxiety (r = 0.76; p.value = 0,000), there is a significant relationship between duration of pain with anxiety (r = 0.447; p.value = 0,001), there is a significant relationship between the location of pain with anxiety (r = 0.675; p.value = 0.000). Intensity of pain is a sub variable most dominant characteristic of pain relationship with anxiety. Management of pain and anxiety are effective depends on the level of pain and anxiety nursing comprehensive assessment. The nurse should use the nursing comprehensive assessment form of pain and anxiety and prepare a standard operating procedure non-pharmacological pain and anxiety management as a guide for nurses to handle the pain and anxiety.en_US
