This study aims to determine the effect of contact time and stirring speed to
achieve the maximum value of the absorption dye methylene blue using durian
shell activated carbon with KOH 2% as activator. FTIR analysis showed the
activation process affects the absorption intensity in the wavelength region and
resulted in the formation of C = C aromatic ribbon on activated carbon durian
skin. Analysis performed using an UV-Vis spectrophotometer to determine the
absorbance values and the final concentration of methylene blue solution at each
variation of contact time and stirring speed. The results of the research with
activators KOH 2% showed maximum adsorption capacity is at stirring speed of
150 rpm and contact time 90 minutes is equal to 3.92 mg/g, whereas the
maximum surface area is at stirring speed 130 rpm and contact time 120 minutes
that is equal to 1785,263 m2
/g. From the results of theoretical calculations, the
correlation coefficient (R2
) of order two is closer to one (1) compared to the first
order. The equation of first order has a value of R2 = 0.808 and equations second
order has a value of R2 = 0.993, so that second order kinetics adsorption more
represents to data of this study. Order two indicated that the adsorption involves
chemical reactions
