dc.description.abstractParticle board using clamshell powder were one of the panel’s product using powder shells and attached it with adhesive unsaturated polyester resin. The usage of powder shells as filler were not only the addition to utilizing the waste but also to increase the hardest and strongest characterization for particle board. The powder shells contained calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO) component, which were suitable to improve the mechanical properties of the particle board. The purpose of this research was to determine the best composition of polyester and shells powder in the manufactured of particle board. Particle board was made using unsaturated polyester resins as a matrix and mixed it with shells powder as filler in addition of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide as catalyst to be attached by using compression molding method. Then the particle board product were tested for the physical and mechanical properties. Results of testing physical properties increased exponentially with the filler composition. The mechanical properties test results showed that the best results was the composition of shells 30% with the highest value of modulus of rupture (MOR) 40,911 MPa, modulus of elasticity (MOE) 180,547 MPa and internal bonding (IB) 13,605 MPa. Physical and mechanical properties of particle board generally meets the requirements of the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) A 5908-2003 except for modulus of elasticity (MOE).en_US
