This study aimed to determine the optimum conditions in biosorbent production from papaya seeds used H2SO4 as activator. In this study, dried papaya seeds were mashed to size of 60 meshes. Afterwords they were activated used sulfuric acid at biosorbent to sulfuric acid ratio (b: v) 1: 1 (b/v) sulfuric acid concentration of 5%, 7%, and 10% for 12 hours at temperature of 110 ºC. Papaya seeds were then separated and washed to remove acidity, and then dried in on oven for 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes at 110 oC. The characteristics of biosorbent are affected by the analysis of iodine number and surface area. Analysis of iodine number is to determine the absorption of biosorbent to iodine solution with titration method of iodimetry. While the determination of surface area, using the methylene blue solution. Results show the highest iodine number at 482, 22 mg/g was reached at drying time of 120 minutes with sulfuric acid concentrations of 10%. Results show the highest Surface area at 33, 43556 m2 g/g was reached at drying time of 120 minutes with sulfuric acid concentrations of 10%.en_US
