dc.description.abstractPalm oil plantation is growing rapidly in Indonesia. In 2011, palm oil plantations in Indonesia have reached 8,91 million ha area. It is produce waste in form of palm midribs in large number around 6.400-7.500/year per 1 ha plantation. One of the way to handle and increase the value of palm midrib waste is by pyrolysis process. This study is aim to analyze the effect of pyrolysis temperature and time to liquid smoke characteristic. Pyrolysis of palm midrib powder was processed at 150 oC, 200 oC, and 250 oC for 30, 60, 90 minutes. The study found that the yield of liquid smoke tends to increase with rising pyrolysis temperature and time until the condition when un condensable gas production more so that the increase of pyrolysis temperature and time will further decrease the yield. The highest yield of liquid smoke obtained at 250 oC for 30 minutes, is 20,69%. The best quality of liquid smoke obtained in the pyrolysis 250 oC for 90 minutes which contain 16,29% acid, 4,57% phenol, and pH 2,6.en_US
