A research has been conducted on the liquid smoke (LS) from oil palm shell pyrolysis with various temperatures (100 - 220°C) as antibacterial agent against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli and its lotio (using liquid smoke obtained at 220°C) on the wound recovery of the artificially made wound of skin of guinea pigs previously infected with Staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial activity was determined by measuring the diameter of inhibition zones in Mueller - Hinton Agar medium by in vitro. The data was analyzed statistically by analysis of variance (ANOVA). A decrease in the wound diameter, eritema, udema, and abscess were used as a measure of the healing effectiveness. The result showed that-the liquid smoke exhibited a stronger inhibition against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus than Streptococcus pyogenes. The liquid smoke obtained at 100 - 220°C temperature did not inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and only that obtained at high temperature (180 - 220°C) inhibit Escherichia coli. The lotio prepared using liquid smoke obtained at 220°C temperature in the Formula I, 2, and 3 (containing 85 - 65% of LS) exhibited a strong inhibition against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, but only weak in the Formula 4 to 8 (containing 55 - 15% of LS). In the Formula 1 and Gentamycin ointment showed approximately healing capability on the wound recovery of the artificially made wound of skin of guinea pigs previously infected by Staphylococcus aureus (at the Formula 1 for 14 days and Gentamycin ointment for 13 days). The healing capability of lotio prepared by using the liquid smoke (the Formula 1, 2, 3 there for 14 days, 16 days, 18 days respectively, and without formulation for 20 days).en_US
