Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a neonatal whose body weight is less than 2500 grams. Some of risk factors related to the incident of LBW are mother's characteristics such as age; education; occupation; age of pregnancy, interval of pregnancy , nutrition status and antenatal care. This survey study with cross sectional approach is intended to examine the relationship between mother's characteristics including age, education, occupation, parity, age of pregnancy, interval of pregnancy, history of pregnancy, nutrition status, level of Hb, Fe suplement and antenatal care and the incident of LBW in the dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital, Banda Aceh. The population for this study is all of the mothers delivering their babies having treatment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital, Banda Aceh and 200 of them were selected to be the samples for this study. The data obtained were analyzed through multiple logistic regression tests with the level of confidence of 95%. The result of this study reveals that there is no significant relationship between the mother's age, education, occupation, parity, and interval pregnancy and the incident of LBW in the mothers delivering their babies in Zainoel Abidin General Hospital; Banda Aceh. But there is a significant relationship between age of pregnancy (p = 0.008), history of pregnancy (p = 0.017), nutrition status (p = 0.000), level of Hb (p = 0.000), Fe suplement (p = 0.012) and antenatal care (p = 0.000) apd the incident of LBW the mothers delivering their babies in dr. Zainoel Abidtn General Hospital, Banda Aceh. The result of multivariate analysis shows that nutrition status is the variable which is most dominantly related to the incidence of LBW in the mothers delivering their babies in Zainoel Abidin General Hospital, BandaAceh. It is suggested to management of dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital Banda Aceh, the local government and the Health Service of Banda Aceh through their related agencies to improve the extensions on health and nutrient for pregnant mothers about the choosing and process of food which meet the need for nutrient.
