Balita is a child under five-years old (commencing from 0 year up to 4 years 11 months old). In January 2006, the prevalence of poor nutrient in 15.18% of children under five-year old (based on the standard median Body weigh/Age indicator issued by WHO-NCHS) and in 2007,the prevalence of poor nurtient in the children under five-year old living in Bener Meriah District increased very significantly to 22.60%. This survey study with explanatory research type is intended to analyze the influence of mothers' socio-culture and sosio-economic background on the food consumption pattern of the children under five-years old living in Bener Meriah District. The population for this study is 14.999 mothers who have children under five-years old. The samples for this study were selected through proportional sampling tehnique and the data obtained were analyzed by means of logistic regression test with level of confident of 95%. The result of this study reveals that, in terms of socio-cultural variable, the knowledge of mothers on the food consumption pattern has influence on the Balita's food consumption pattern (p : 0.010), the number of family members (p : 0.479), the distibution of food in the family (p = 0.067), the food which is tabu for the Balita (p = 0.072) and the level of mothers' education (p = 0.089) does not have any influence on the food consumption pattern of the children under five-years old. In terms of socio-economic, family income (p = 0.070) does not have any influence on the food consumption pattern of the children under five-year old living in Bener Meriah Distict, the Province Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. The Health Service of Bener Meriah District is suggested to take-strategic action in preventing poor nutrient status in the Balita, to improve and redevelop the nutient education for the community either directly provided in the integrated health service post (posyandu), in the community health center (puskesmas), and in the other health service institutions as well as doing advocating to improve the nutrient status of the Balita.
