dc.description.abstractThe compound of amide acid-o-( N-2-hydroksi ethyl-formamide) benzoic can be derivate through amidation of pthalat acid anhidrate with ethanolamine. The formation of amide compound is made by pre-melting pthalat anhidrate acid, and then it is amidated directly with ethanolamine at 170 - 180°C. The compound gained is then tested by thin layer chromatography and furthermore by column chromatography purification with eluent methanol : petroleum ether 9 : I (v/v). The result of amidation reaction has a melting point of 123 - 125 °c, and reaction ratio is 61.33 %. Determination of hydrofoil lipofil balance (HLB) level of acid-O- (N-2- hydroksi ethyl-formamide) benzoic compound by titration method is 13.45 suggesting the emulsifier in character and thus it can be used as surfactant. The result of reaction is confirmed by analytical spectroscopic FT-IR and 1H NMR.en_US
