| dc.description.abstract | This thesis is entitled "Structure and Function Analysis of the Legend of
Sianturi Tuan Dihorbo in Lumban Sianturi Village, Paranginan District:
Folklore Studies", the purpose of writing this thesis is to analyze the intrinsic
elements and functions of the legend of Sianturi Tuan Dihorbo in Lumban
Sianturi Village, Parangnan District. This legend is one of the legacies of the
Batak people, especially the Sianturi clan. The method used in this writing is
descriptive qualitative method with field research techniques using observation,
interviews, and literature. This study uses the theory of structure proposed by
Nurgiantoro and the theory of function advanced by Bascom. From the results of
the discussion it can be concluded that; The theme of the Sianturi legend is the
spread of Sianturi Tuan Dihorbo's descendants and the establishment of houses
painted with human blood. flow / plot using the forward flow. the setting/setting
includes the setting of places in Simatupang village, North Paranginan village,
and Lumban Sianturi village. The time setting takes place in ancient times, in the
morning, at night. There are 6 characterizations/characters, namely Tuan Dihorbo,
Datu Birara, Boru Sanduduk, brother of Tuan Dihorbo (Mandosi Raja,
Bonanionan, Parmassahati). The point of view used by the author is the third
person point of view. language style / figure of speech using sarcasm style. The
message contained in the Siaturi Tuan Dihorbo legend is the importance of
ensuring an action because if it is careless it can lead to disaster. And has a
function, namely as a reflection or projection of the owner's wishful thinking, as a
means of validating cultural institutions and institutions, as an educational tool,
and as a means of suppressing or forcing the enactment of social values and
