    Abstract
Thermoplastic nylon is a flexible denture base material that is currently in demand because it has various advantages, but has the disadvantage of being difficult to polish which causes surface roughness and easy formation of bacterial and fungal colonization. Cinnamon extract is proven to inhibit the attachment of Candida albicans fungus, but contains phenol in cinnamon extract causing the polyamide chain bonds to be disrupted. This study aims to determine the effect of immersion and immersion time of thermoplastic nylon denture base in cinnamon extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) concentration of 40% and alkaline peroxide for 1 year and 2 years on surface roughness. The research design was laboratory experimental with a post-test only control group design. The research sample was a cylindrical thermoplastic nylon with a diameter of 20 ± 1 mm and a thickness of 2 ± 0.1 mm based on ISO 1567. The 36 samples were divided into 6 treatment groups with 6 samples each. Samples were soaked in cinnamon extract concentration of 40%, alkaline peroxide (positive control) and distilled water (negative control) for 4 days and 8 days to simulate use for 15 minutes a day for 1 year and 2 years. Samples were then tested and analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test to determine the effect of immersion and unpaired T-test to determine the effect of immersion time on surface roughness. The results of the one-way ANOVA test showed that there was an effect of soaking cinnamon extract and alkaline peroxide on surface roughness for 1 year and 2 years with p = 0.001 (p <0.05). The results of the unpaired t test showed that there was no effect of soaking time of cinnamon extract and alkaline peroxide on surface roughness for 1 year and 2 years. The results of the study concluded that cinnamon extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) concentration of 40% could be used as an alternative for cleaning materials for thermoplastic nylon denture bases while still considering its effect on other physical properties.
