Background. Headache is the most common complaint found in worldwide, formed as pain in some part of the head. According to WHO in 2016, the prevalence of adults with headache disorders was about 50% and half to three-quarters were adults aged 18-65 years old. Students who are related with a busy class schedule, a large number of courses and a heavy study load potentially to trigger primary headaches and affect achievement, daily activities and quality of life. Purpose. To describe the demographic characteristics of the primary headaches in Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, class of 2019-2021 based on the distribution of gender, place of residence, sleep quality, emotional stress, and food. Method.This is a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. Respondents was Faculty of Medicine students class of 2019-2021 at Universitas Sumatera Utara. The data used are primary data obtained through questionnaire instruments and use simple random sampling techniques to determine the number of samples. Result. From 258 respondents, 124 people (48.1%) had TTH, 109 people (42.2%) had migraines and 25 people (9.7%) had clusters. The demographic characteristics of primary headaches were most experienced by the female (69.8%), living with parents (53.9%), good sleep quality (66.3%), moderate stress (37.2%) and consuming chocolate or cheese (31.4%). Conclusion. TTH is the most common type of headache.
