Introduction.Diabetic retinopathy is the most common microvascular complication in DM patients, which is associated with prolonged hyperglycemia and other conditions associated with DM. A meta-analysis based on 35 epidemiological studies worldwide showed that 35% of DM patients had complications of RD and 10.2% of them were vision-threatening. Aim. This study aims to determine the difference in duration of diabetes mellitus type 2 and random blood glucose levels in Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) at the Rumah Sakit Khusus Mata Medan 2022. Methods. This research is an analytical study using a cross-sectional study design. Also, this study used a non-probability sampling technique, with the type of consecutive sampling. This study was conducted at the Rumah Sakit khusus Mata Medan Baru in Abdullah Lubis No.67, Merdeka, Medan Baru, Medan city, Sumatera Utara. This research was carried out for 2 months, starting from August to September 2022. The samples obtained were 40 samples. Results. The data analysis of this study used bivariate analysis, with the Mann-Whitney U test, where the results of the analysis of the difference in duration of diabetes mellitus type 2 in Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) obtained a p-value of 0.009 (p< 0.005). Meanwhile, the difference in random blood glucose levels in Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) obtained a p-value of 0.230 (p>0.005). Conclusion. There was a significant difference between the duration of diabetes mellitus type 2 in Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) and there was no significant difference between the random blood glucose levels while in Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR).
