dc.description.abstractIntroduction. The elderly are a group that is prone to constipation due to physiological changes that occur in their bodies, which results in a lack of dietary fiber and fluid intake consumed in daily life. Where fiber and fluid are several factors that affect the pattern of defecation. Aim. This study aims to analyze the relationship between fiber and fluid intake on the pattern of defecation in the elderly. Methods. This study is an analytic study with a cross-sectional design. This research was conducted at the Happy-Happy Umas Church, Medan in August-October 2022. The sample of the study was elderly people aged over 60 years and were obtained by consecutive sampling method. Analysis of research data using exact fischer test. Results. The results of the exact fischer did not show a relationship between fiber and fluid intake on the frequency of defecation and stool consistency in the elderly. Conclusion. There is no relationship between fiber and fluid intake on the frequency of defecation and stool consistency in the elderly.en_US
