Background. An Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a part of a hospital ed to the intended, treatment, and therapy of patients suffering from potentially life-threatening diseases. The criteria for patients who are in the ICU are critically ill patients with instability or organ system failure and have a relatively long length of stay (LOS) and require the help of devices such as ventilators. To improve the quality of medical care, the main goal in intensive care is to reduce LOS. Tracheostomy is one of the most commonly performed procedures in the intensive care unit. The advantage is that it can reduce ICU LOS, improve patient’s comfort and better airway management. Aim. This study aims to determine the description of tracheostomy on the length of stay of patients treated at the ICU RSUP Haji Adam Malik Medan 2021.Methods. This study is a descriptive study with cross-sectional design. Data collection methods using medical record data. Sampling method using total sampling technique. Results. The results of the study on ICU patients who are ventilated ≥ two weeks in RSUP HAM Medan found as many as 46 people (70.2%) who were not tracheostomized and 19 people (29.2%) who were tracheostomized. The average LOS of patients who were tracheostomized was 19 days and the average LOS of patients who were not traceostomized was 11 days. Conclusions. Average LOS ICU patients who are ventilated ≥ two weeks in RSUP HAM Medan was greater in patients who were tracheostomized.
