Background: Diarrhea is an endemic disease that has the potential to cause extraordinary events (KLB) and is still a contributor to the mortality rate in Indonesia, especially in toddlers. One of the factors that can affect the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers is maternal knowledge. Maternal knowledge of personal hygiene has an important role in the incidence of diarrhea in children and toddlers such as knowledge about PHBS and knowledge in preventing the risk of diarrhea. Objective. The objective of the research was to determine the correlation between the level of maternal knowledge about PHBS with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in Stungkit Village, Langkat Regency. Methods. This study was an analytic study with a cross sectional design. The sample in this study amounted to 101 people using non-random sampling technique with purposive sampling method. The subjects of this study were mothers who had children aged 1-5 years. The analysis used was univariate and bivariate data analysis with chi square. Results. In this study out of 101 respondents there were 95 people (94.1%) had good knowledge about PHBS, 6 people (5.9%) had sufficient knowledge about PHBS, 9 people (8.9%) mothers with toddlers had diarrhea in the last 3 months and 92 people (91.1%) mothers with toddlers who did not have diarrhea in the last 3 months. Bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between the level of maternal knowledge about PHBS with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (p=0.000), exclusive breastfeeding with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (p = 0.007), hand washing behavior with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (p=0.000), knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.000) and knowledge about weighing infants and toddlers regularly with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (p=0.030). Conclusion. There is a correlation between the level of knowledge of mothers about PHBS with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in Stungkit Village, Langkat Regency.en_US
