Background. Family Planning (KB) is a program to form healthy families by limiting births through the use of hormonal and non-hormonal contraceptives. The ideology of family planning is due to a population problem that is still high. Based on 2021 Semester II Population Data, Indonesia's population is 273,879,750 people. This population made Indonesia ranks number four in the list of countries with the largest population in the world. One of the factors affecting the level of knowledge about contraception selection is because lack of counseling done by health workers to new acceptors. Objective. To find out the comparison of the level of knowledge between semester 7 medical students who have received lecture material on family planning methods and semester 3 medical students who have not received lecture material on family planning methods. Method. This research uses descriptive analytic method with cross- sectional design will be carried out through questionnaire. Analysis was carried out using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Mann Whitney’s test to see a comparison of the dependent and independent variables. Results. From bivariate analysis using Mann Whitney’s test obtained a significance value (2- tailed) of 0,004 (<0,05) so there is a difference in the level of knowledge between semester 7 students and semester 3 students. Conclusion. The level of knowledge of students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra, semester 7 who have good knowledge is as many as 39 respondents (78%), meanwhile semester 3 has a lower percentage, which is 27 respondents (54%).
