dc.description.abstractBackground:Asthma is a chronic, non-communicable disease characterized by recurrent attacks of shortness of breath and wheezing, which vary in severity and frequency from person to person. The prevalence of asthma in children is increasing from year to year. The main clinical symptoms of asthma in children are generally recurrent wheezing and shortness of breath, but chronic cough is not uncommon in children. Anti-inflammatory administration plays an important role in the treatment and control of asthma because of its bronchoconstrictive effect due to the ongoing inflammatory process in the airways. Asthma in children is a problem for patients and families, because asthma in children affects various specific aspects related to quality of life, including the process of growth and development both in infancy, toddlers and during adolescence. Asthma is one of the top ten causes of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia, where according to the Household Health Survey, 225,000 people died from asthma. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge of students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra, Class of 2019 and 2020 regarding asthma in children. Method: The research design is descriptive in form and is measured using a questionnaire method with a questionnaire tool and distributed online. The sample chosen was students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra, Class of 2019 and 2020. The research sample was selected using a non-probability sampling technique of consecutive sampling type with a sample size of 100 people. SPSS will be used to analyze research data. Results: The results of this study can show that the level of knowledge of students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra Batch 2019 and 2020 regarding asthma in children is 94 people (94%) have a good level of knowledge, 6 people (6%) have sufficient knowledge and 0 people (0%) who have less knowledge level. Conclusion: University of North Sumatra Medical Faculty students 2019 and 2020 have a good level of knowledge about asthma in children.en_US
