Background. Gastroparesis is a neuromuscular condition of the upper digestive
tract characterized by delayed gastric emptying, which is not caused by gastric
obstruction. Gastroparesis is more common in women than men because women
have a slower gastric emptying than men. Nausea, vomiting and early satiety are
common symptoms of gastroparesis. Mortality rates are higher in patients with
gastroparesis and are often associated with a poorer prognosis. Good knowledge
of gastroparesis can help in identify clinical symptoms and reducing complication
that will occur. Therefore, this allows researchers to find out the level of students’
knowledge of gastroparesis. Aim. The research “Level of Knowledge of Medical
Faculty Students, Universitas Sumatera Utara on Gastroparesis” was carried out
to find out the description of knowledge about gastroparesis. Method. This study
uses descriptive study research method with a cross sectional study approach. The
sample was selected using a namely consecutive sampling with a sample size of 222
students of Medical Faculty Students, Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2019 and
2020 by using questionnaire. Conclusion. The level of knowledge of students of the
Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara in general is categorized as good
(75.7%)
