Introduction. Birth control (contraception) is any method, medicine, or device
used by women of reproductive age (15-49 years) to prevent pregnancy. There are
various types of birth control to choose depends on the health condition, desire to
have children now or in the future. Aim Knowing the characteristics of oral
contraceptive users at the public health center and if the usage of oral
contraceptive can lead to hypertension. Method. A descriptives study was
conducted in June until November 2022 at Puskesmas Padang Bulan, Medan.
Results. All of the women of reproductive there used combination pill (100,0%)
and are married women (100,0%). The most age group are between 21-40 years
old (80,7%). Most of the users were graduated from junior high school (27,7%).
Quite a number (51,8%) of oral contraceptive users were in parity 2. Majority
length of oral contraceptive usage are ≤ 12 months (90,4%) and most of the users
has a normal blood pressure (94,0%). Conclusion. Overall, the users of oral
contraceptive are aged between 21-40 years old, has 2 parity, graduated ftom
junior high school, length of usage ≤ 12 months and has a normal blood pressure.
