dc.description.abstract | The dissertation explored the political jargon used in 2009 Indonesian legislative general election. A Sociosemiotics study focused on jargon, Sociosemiotics is about interpreting concerning variety, or register, the code, the linguistic system. The objectives are to find out linguistic aspect used in political jargon, and this aspect in language feature used in political jargon, and how gender identified in its sexist lexical of political jargon, and to cover what are the strategies used in political jargon, and then writer characterized the man's and woman's political jargon. the Sociosemiotic approach, an approach proposed by Peter Newmark's functional language, which emphasizes the importance of context, both context of sifuation and context of culture, in reconstructing the meaning of a text. He emphasizes the unity of a text (language), context (linguistic and non-linguistic), and the social structure to translate the text. The descriptive research conducted with qualitative approach and applied to study the jargon. There are 257 political jargon taken as data, observed in March 2009 . Precisely this is a Sociosemiotic study, There are 121 sentences and 136 phrases found on political jargon. She also found out that man's jargon mostly use simple sentence (33,4%) the candidate using process in its language feature, while woman mostly use verb phrases (48,8 %) in their jargon. It means that language in man's jargon focused to verb, which was expressing planning or program, but woman's jargon use, mostly the language for advice, invitation, or wishes. While in the analyses of language function found in man's jargon 29,71% is Aesthetic function, and woman also used aesthetic function 24,44% . Man and woman used more aesthetic jargon, as Indonesian love to hear nice words, and polite words, to attract the voters, to build good image. On the other hand, the language stratery used by man's political jargon, mans mostly used empty promise, and woman used inclusive stratery, its 46,66%. it means man's jargon focused to program that will be done in the future, no matter if he could fulfill the promises, while woman's jargon mostly means to invite people to do something . Politics is a world of words , a world of poorly understood words, poorly remembered word, and poorly theorized word (Hart 2001:44) after the analyses writer proposed the analyses of jargon based on what she called "modal strategy" that the strategy of political jargon actually can be classified to : decision, or statement prediction, intention, possibility, ability, opinion, or idea, or proposal, planning hope or wish, and advise. Writer also find the most frequency used word, is "rakyat" (people) (29,9%), and "berjuang" means to struggle, to fight for (19%), and "kita" or us (15,9%). At the end of the chapter the characteristics and the principles for political jargon are formulated. | en_US |
