This thesis is entitled “Morphological Process of English and Toba Batak Language; A Case
‘Study on Nominalization”. The aims of this study are to find out the morphological process on
nominalization in English and Batak Toba languages and to analyze the correspondence, and
Partly-correspondence both languages systematically. The data of this study is written text in
English and Batak Toba language. The research was conducted by using the library research
and field research. The data for this study consist of affixation and derivational process in data
languages. The findings in this study show some correspondences in nominalization both of
English and Batak Toba language. There are 13 prefixes in English namely ab-, ante-, anti-,
arch-, bi-, demi-, di-, ex-, extra-, fore-, mal-, non-, pos-t. There are 24 suffixes in English namely
ment, -al, -ure, -ness, -ence, -sion, -ion, -man, -ition, -cy, -tion, -y, -ity, -er, -or, -an, -age, -ism, -
logy, -ee, -ation, -ship, -ance, -ful. There are 9 prefixes in Batak Toba language namely par-,
ma-, mar-, di-, pa-, tar-, sa-, um-, ha-. There are 4 suffixes in Batak Toba language namely hon-,
an-, i-, on-. The partly-correspondence also exists in nominalization both of English and Batak
Toba language. There is no infix and reduplication in English while Batak Toba can be attached
to the base forms in nominalization. Batak Toba has 4 infixes which are -in-, -um-, -ar-, -al-
There are 9 confixes in Batak Toba language function to form noun they are pan-an, pan-on, si-
on, si-an, pang-an, par-on, par-an, ha-on, ha-an. There is no zero derivation in adjective of
Batak Toba nominalization because adjective in Batak Toba must be attached by affixation. It
means that this research refers to the usages of affixation in nominalizations the two languages
are different.
