Background. Atopic dermatitis is increasing in industrialized and developing countries. Allergy prevention should be targeted primarily at infants with genetic susceptibility. The prevention of allergy have been proposed, including with hypoallergenic formula, extensive hydrolyzed formula ( eHF) or possibly partially hydrolyzed formula (pHF) if lack of breast milk (BM). Methods. An experimental non randomized study was performed on 50 term infants who were born at H. Adam Malik Hospital and Pirngadi Hospital, Medan at July 2007 - February 2008. The allergy preventive effect of pHF with BM compared with BM only was assessed. We followed up the atopic dermatitis, and we recorded until six months of age. Results. We found the atopic dermatitis in BM group 50% at four months of age and 44,4% in BM with pHF group at five months of age. Conclusion. Breast milk (BM) with partially hydrolyzed formula (pHF) have a beneficial effect in prevent of atopic dermatitis in first six months of ageen_US
