    Abstract
Mulch installation is one of the ways to treat land after land processing. The purpose of this study was to design a drive wheel and to test the performance of a mechanical mulch installation tool with variations in the speed value of the tool. In this study, data collection on the design of the drive wheel was carried out utilizing a literature study. Testing the tool using a non-factorial completely randomized design (CRD) experiment method with one factor, namely the speed of the tool. Based on the calculation results, the wheel design in this study has an outer diameter of 50 cm, the number of fins is 10 with a fin angle of 30 °, the width of the wheel is 20 cm, the height of the fin is 10 cm, and the fin width is 6.28 cm. The average working capacity of the tool is 0.0409 ha/hour. The average fuel consumption is 0.5227 l/hour. The average percentage of perfect and imperfect mulch installation was 49.28% and 50.71%, respectively. The results of the ANOVA test showed that the speed of the tool did not show a significant difference in the effect on the percentage of mulch installation. The results of the DMRT test of the working capacity of the tool showed a very significant effect on each treatment. The highest working capacity of the tool was found in the K3 treatment at 0.0438 ha/hour and the lowest was in the K1 treatment at 0.0386 ha/hour. The results of the DMRT fuel consumption test showed a very significant effect on each treatment. The highest fuel consumption in the K3 treatment was 0.7460 l/hour and the lowest was in the K1 treatment at 0.3290 l/hour. In terms of economic analysis, the cost of using this tool is IDR. 1,548,000/year, has an annual cost of IDR. 922,443/year and will break even on an area of 1.19 Ha/year
