Background Stunting is an indicator of the nutritional status of children due to
the problem of chronic malnutrition. Stunting can cause testosterone deficiency
that can lead to micropenis. Micropenis is a condition where the penis size is
smaller than average according to age but does not reduce the function of
penis. Micropenis on baby boys potentially exposed to other diseases. Nearly
50% of children with micropenis first detected when suffering from a urinary
tract infection.
Objective To determine the relationship between the length of the penis and
the incidence of urinary tract infections in stunting boys.
Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in two elementary schools in
Singkuang village. Of the 159 boys, 49 boys suffered from stunting and 11 O
boys with normal stature. We measured penis length and urine dipstick
examination. Fisher's exact test was used to analyze the relationship between
length of the penis and the incidence of urinary tract infection. Significantly was
set at p< 0.05
Results Of the 49 boys with stunting, 33 had micropenis, and the rest were
normal. From 33 boys with micropenis, 6 was found suffered from urinary tract
infections, and the rest were normal. Fisher's exact test showed that boys with
micropenis have relationship with the incidence of urinary tract infection (p =
0.04).
Conclusions There is a significant relationship between the length of the
penis and the incidence of urinary tract infections in stunting boys
