dc.description.abstract | Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) constitutes the last stage of HIV infection. HIV/AIDS has become a serious problem in any infected individual that includes physical, social, and emotional problems. They can be coped with by spirituality which is the method of motivating a HIV/AIDS patients to cope with their problems so that they can feel the meaning of life. The research used quantitative method with quasi experimental design. The samples were 72 respondents that were divided into two groups: half of them were in the intervention group and another half of them were in the control group. The data were gathered by using forms of demographic data and questionnaires for pre-test. Then, spiritual counseling was provided for the respondents. Validity test with 3 experts at the value of 0.87 and reliability test with Cronbach Alpha of 0.94 were done. The data were analyzed by using Wlcoxon test (non-parametric test). The result of statistic test showed that there was the influence of spiritual counseling on coping mechanism in HIV/AIDS patients in the Klinik VCT Veteran, Medan: in the pre-intervention group the mean value was 1.06 and in the control group the value of Z Score was -4. 707 and p-value=0. 000. In the pre-intervention group the mean value was 1.06 and in the post-intervention the mean value was 1.189, the value of Z Score was -5.477 and p-value= 0. 000. In the post-intervention group the mean value was 1.89 and the control group it was 1.22, the value of Z Score was -4. 707 and p-value=0.000. The conclusion was that there was the influence of spiritual counseling on coping mechanism in HIV/AIDS patients in the Klinik VCT Veteran, Medan. It is recommended that the patients increase their activities concerning spirituality. | en_US |
