Water is an important requirement in meeting the needs of economic and social activities,
such as industry, hospitals, hotels, trade, offices and education. This research was made based
on the background of the absence of clean water connections in Wampu District and the 2019
100-0-100 program from PUPR. The main problem faced is the lack of quantity and decreased
quality of water production for domestic use. This study aims to determine the characteristics
and quantity of clean water as a reference for the development of drinking water supply in
Wampu District, Langkat Regency. The data used is secondary data; water quality of the
Wampu River, data on the area of the Langkat Watershed, rainfall and population data from
BPS Langkat, and climate data from the Kualanamu Meteorological Station. Obtained
research results; watershed area of 2,349 km2, reliable discharge of 43,497 m3/second, there
are 5 parameters that pass river water quality standards, namely; turbidity, BOD5, COD,
fecal coliform, and total coliform. The projected population in 2041 is 51,934 people and the
total need for water is 157.22 L/second. Calculation results; intake with 5.4 m3 volume, 2 presedimentation
tanks with 612 m3 volume, coagulant requirement 61.883 L/day, coagulation
with 9.42 m3 volume, 2 flocculation tanks with 211.95 m3 volume, 2 sedimentation tanks with
612 m3 volume, 5 tanks filtration tanks with 11.21 m2 base area, chlorine requirement for
disinfection is 39.47 kg/day, and elevated reservoir with 2,826 m3 volume
