dc.description.abstractExploitation of peatlands for agriculture including estates plantation and industrial plants classified as highly vulnerable especially if carried out on thick peat, whereas peatlands in Indonesia are very wide around + 17 million hectares. On the other, peat soil rich organic maffer but deficient of nutrients soil caused by organic material preserved in anaerob conditions so the ability of soil to release the nutrients is very slow. By getting the right method to manage peatlands, the peatlands are very wide can used for oil palm plantation. The aims of the research are to studied the respon of oil palm seedlings that planted at peat soil and changes of chemical characteristic of peat soil that applied fungus Trichodema koningii. The research was conducted at Rantau Parapat" Labuhan Batu District of North Sumatra Province. Research was ananged with Split-Split Plot Design, as main plot are varieties, sub plot are composition of growth media and sub- sub plot are applications of Trichoderma l<oningii. The results of the research showed there is no significanly difference of the plant growth that planted on peat soit + TViichoderma koningii decomposer with that planted on mineral soil. Applications of Thtchoderma koningii can reduce the C/irl of peat soil at the level CA.T which allows for the soil to release nutrients.en_US
