dc.description.abstract | Background: Shoulder pain is an unpleasant and subjective experience associated with a static position and bending the neck forward for a long time. The use of laptop and other gadgets during COVID-19 has increased because teaching and learning activities are carried out online. Using a laptop for a long time can cause several problems, including sore eyes, pain in the lower back, neck and shoulders. Objective: To determine the relationship between position when using a laptop and complaints of shoulder pain in students of the Faculty Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, class of 2019-2020. Method: This study used an analytic method with a cross-sectional study design, with a stratified random sampling method. The research subjects were 140 students in this study, and the research data was processed using the SPSS application. Result: There is a significant relationship with p<0.001 between wrong sitting position (not ergonomic) and complaints of shoulder pain, there is a significant relationship with p<0.001 between the frequency of laptop use and the shoulder pain scale, there is a significant relationship with p<0.001 between the duration of laptop use in non-ergonomic positions with complaints of shoulder pain, there is a significant relationship with p<0.001 between the duration of laptop use in non-ergonomic positions and the shoulder pain scale. Conclusion: sitting position that is not ergonomic for a long time causes complaints of shoulder pain.
