Hubungan Intensitas Penggunaan Media Sosial dengan Ansietas pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sumatera Utara Tahun 2022

Abstract

Background. The use of social media has become a very popular tool for socializing, especially for teenagers and young adults. In Indonesia, 68.9% of the total population are social media users with the average usage of 3 hours 17 minutes daily and are 18-24 years old. This study was intended to gain an understanding of the correlation between the intensity of social media usage and anxiety. Anxiety is the most common phenomenon among all mental health disorders. According to WHO in 2019, there were 301 million people living with anxiety disorders including 58 million children and adolescents. Aim. To find out the correlation between the intensity of social media usage and anxiety in students of Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2022. Methods. This research is an analytical research with a cross sectional study. Results. The result using the spearman rho rank correlation test showed that there was a positive but insignificant correlation between the intensity of social media usage and anxiety in students of Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2022 (r = 0.056, p = 0.374). Conclusion. There is no significant correlation between the intensity of social media usage and anxiety in students of Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2022.
