Background : Cardiovascular disease is still a global threat and is a disease that
plays a major role as the number one cause of death worldwide. Data from the
World Health Organization (WHO) states that more than 17 million people
worldwide die from heart and blood vessel disease. Based on Basic Health
Research (Riskesdas) data for 2018, the incidence of heart and blood vessel disease
is increasing from year to year. At least, 15 out of 1000 people, or around 2,784,064
individuals in Indonesia suffer from heart disease. Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)
has several risk factors. The non-modifiable risk factors are gender, ethnicity, and
age. Modifiable risk factors are hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, lack of
physical activity, diabetes mellitus, smoking behavior and poor dietary habits.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge of
students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Batch 2019 on
the Coronary Heart Disease. Research Methods : The research conducted by
researchers was a descriptive study, namely looking at the level of knowledge of
the Coronary Heart Disease. The type of data collected in this study is primary
data, namely data obtained directly from the respondents. Data collection was
carried out by distributing questionnaires to the research sample. Results : most of
the active students have a high level of knowledge (79.0%) about Coronary Heart
Disease as candidates for general practitioners. A good level of knowledge about
the risk factors for Coronary Heart Disease will certainly be useful for diagnosing
quickly and precisely so that patients receive good treatment in the future.
