Background. Menstruation occurs when a female has achieve puberty. Dysmenorrhea, which is also known as menstrual pain is a known symptom during menstruation. One of the factors that causes dysmenorrhea is anxiety. Anxiety is crucial in our daily life, but it also has it's negative impact. Aim. To analyse the relationship between levels of anxiety and the occurance of dysmenorrhea between female students of SMA Al-Azhar Medan. Method. This research is an analytical observational research with cross sectional approach. The measuring instrument that is used is questionnaire which is distributed to the students via online using Zung’s Self Rating Anxiety Scale to measure the levels of anxiety and Numeral Rating Scale to detect the presence of dysmenorrhea. Result. Theresearch subjects are 99 respondents, 85 respondents (85,9%) were grouped in the mild anxiety, 11 respondents (11,1%) in the moderate anxiety group, 3 respondents (3,0%) in the severe anxiety group. 86 respondents (86.87%) suffers from dysmenorrhea. From the results of the Spearman correlation test, it was found that the p-value was <0,001, and the r value was 0,531. Conclusion. There is significant and moderate correlation between anxiety levels and the incidence of dysmenorrhea in Al-Azhar Medan High School students who participated in this study.
