Background. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a retrovirus that attacks CD4 T lymphocytes which ultimately causes cell death and severe immune deficiency in infected individuals. AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) which means a syndrome (a collection of symptoms) due to a decrease in acquired immunity (not a hereditary disease). AIDS is a viral disease that causes a collapse of the immune system caused by human immunodeficiency infection (HIV). HIV/AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a deadly disease with an increasing number of sufferers from year to year. The spread of the HIV/AIDSvirus spreads in various remote areas to big cities. The spread of the virus is due tothe increasingly dense population, high mobility of people, lack of information about health and the environment that encourages high-risk sexual intercourse (free sex). Aim. Knowing the description of the knowledge level among students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra about HIV infection towards premarital HIV prevention behavior. Method. This research is a descriptive research using a cross- sectional study approach. The sample was selected using the total sampling techniquewith a sample size of 170 people using a questionnaire. Conclusion. The level of knowledge of students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra, is generally categorized as very good.
