    Abstract
    Background. Gallstones or cholelithiasis have become one of the major problems that are prioritized in Western countries. The prevalence varies globally which is 10-20% in adult populations. Nevertheless, the publication of research research is still limited in Indonesia. Based on the number of gallstone patients at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan, researcher found that the number of patients with gallstones treated increased by 61.2% from 2020 to 2021. Various risk factors that affect the formation of gallstones which are often known as "4F" which stands for female, fat, forty, and fertile. Dietary patterns and obesity are one of the risk factors that can be modified to prevent the increase in gallstones cases. Aim. This research was conducted to prove the relationship between dietary patterns with gallstones and BMI values with gallstones event. Method. This research is an observational analytic research with cross sectional design conducted at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. This study was conducted with primary data and secondary data sources, which is the medical record of patients with gallstones in the July 2021 - December 2021 period. The sampling method used is total sampling that meets inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data was then analyzed with the Nutrisurvey and SPSS program. The number of samples is 60 people consisting of 30 cholelithiasis patients and 30 non-cholelithiasis patients as control. Results. The Chi Square tests shows a significant relationship between the BMI value to the incidence of gallstones with the p value = 0.012 (p <0.05) and there is no significant relationship between dietary patterns and gallstones with p value = 0.519 (p> 0.05).
